Bulgaria's promising tennis youngster Grigor Dimitrov defeated Frenchman Germy Chardy in a dramatic five-set clash to reach the second round of Australian Open.
In a game that lasted more than three hours, the Bulgarian succeeded in edging pass his opponent 3-6, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
For advancing to the second round, the 20-year-old Bulgarian received 45 ranking points. However, he still needs to defend 70 ranking points from his last year participation at Australian Open.
In the second round, No. 78 Grigor Dimitrov will face No. 10 Nicolas Almagro of Spain. Earlier on Monday, Amlagro defeated Pole Lukasz Kubot 1-6, 7-5, 6-3, 7-5.
