The long-awaited return of former Bulgarian President, Georgi Parvanov, to the Bulgarian Socialist Party, BSP, is now a fact.

The news was reported Thursday by the Bulgarian "24 Chassa" (24 Hours) daily, writing that Parvanov had officially received on Sunday his party membership card in the village of Kovachevtsi.

Kovachevtsi is a village in the western Region of Pernik and the municipal center of Parvnov's native village of Sirishtnik, along with 7 other villages. It is also the birthplace of the leader of the Bulgarian Communist Party, and 32nd Prime Minister of Bulgaria, Georgi Dimitrov (1946-1949).

It is expected that Parvanov will publically announce the news about his renewed BSP membership Saturday, February 4, during his visit to the Black Sea city of Varna as a guest of a round table on modern leadership, organized by the youth branch of the Socialist Party.

The party members and followers also anticipate that in Varna the former President will outline his role in the party, amidst numerous, but unconfirmed reports that he plans to oust and replace former Prime Minister and BSP leader, Sergey Stanishev.

Parvanov left office on January 22 after serving two terms there (2002-2012). He is also a former BSP leader but quit the party and the post when he was elected President.
