Former European Commissioner and former Bulgarian Presidential runner Meglena Kuneva announced officially the transformation of her civic movement to a political party on Europe Day, May 9.

Greeks cast ballots today in their most critical — and uncertain — election in decades, with voters set to punish the two main parties that are being held responsible for the country's dire economic straits.

The stakes couldn't be higher.

Voting has begun in the French presidential election, a ballot which could transform the political colours of France and spark a change in Europe's approach to its debt crisis and austerity measures.

Over 5,000 supporters of the opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party have assembled on a Day of Rage rally against the cabinet of center-right GERB party Tuesday.

The Socialists have used May 1, International Labor Day, to express their protest against what they see as wrong and misguided policies of the government of PM Boyko Borisov.

Bulgaria's former President Georgi Parvanov may form a coalition between his left-wing Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) and ruling centrist-right GERB, according to BSP MP Rumen Ovcharov.

"If we follow Georgi Parvanov's political development, we should not rule out such possibility," Ovcharov, a former Energy Minister, told the Bulgarian National Television.

The GERB government should not waste time playing games of early elections but should focus on improving the living standards in the country, according to former EU Commissioner Meglena Kuneva.

The origin of Bulgaria's present bad economic situation is Minister of Finance Simeon Djankov and he must be dismissed, argued former Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov.

"I think that if Vice-PM and Minister of Finance Simeon Djankov does not go, then we can expect nothing good for PM Boyko Borisov's cabinet, and for Bulgaria," said Parvanov at a press conference in Dobrich.

Hristina Hristova, leader of the marginal liberal Movement for Stability and Prosperity (NMSP), has criticized Bulgaria's former EU Commissioner Meglena Kuneva for officially leaving the party.

Bulgarian independent Member of the European Parliament, Slavi Binev, has launched a new political party "Conservative Party Movement of Success."

The news is published on the MEP's official web page and comes just two weeks after the announcement of him founding of a new civic movement, dubbed Civic Movement for Real Democracy, GORD.

The boss of pharmaceutical company Sopharma, an alleged monopolist on the Bulgarian market, is aspiring to become one day the country's prime minister, according to local journalists.

"You should be careful what you say [about us] because very soon you will be living in a country, whose prime minister's name is Ognyan Donev," Nikolay Barekov said on Wednesday in his broadcast on TV channel 7, retelling a conversation he had with Donev's partner Lyubomir Pavlov.
