Roma Pop Folk Diva to Represent Bulgaria at Eurovision

Bulgaria is sending for the first time ever a pop folk singer – Sofi Marinova, to represent the country at the Eurovision contest.

Marinova won Wednesday evening the nomination in competition with 11 other finalists in the Bulgarian edition of Eurovision.

Her song "Love Unlimited" was the choice of viewers. The Musical Academy was also part of the vote, but it ranked "Love Unlimited" 3rd, while their pick was the group "New 5" with their song "Chance for Better Life."

Jean-Michel Jarre, the French legend of electronic music, delighted thousands of fans during his first concert on Bulgarian soil on Sunday.

Even though the gig began 50 minutes later than initially announced, it was described as a success by the excited audience and the Bulgarian media. Jarre's concert was accepted as a historical event in Sofia, as it was the first concert to be staged in the city's brand new sports and performance facility "Arena Armeets".

Sofia Anticipates Concert of French Legend Jean-Michel Jarre

Over ten thousand people are expected to attend Sunday night the first ever concert of French electronic music legend, Jean-Michel Jarre, in Bulgaria's capital Sofia.

The concert will be held at Sofia's brand new sports and performance facility "Armeets Arena."

Bansko Jazz Fest 8 - 13 August 2011

This month from the 8 - 13 August 2011, the International Jazz Festival in Bansko known as the "Bansko Jazz Fest" will be taking place. The extremely popular summer festival which began in 1998 has an open air stage in the town's centre where crowds gather to enjoy the musical extravaganza. Other smaller stages will be located in larger establishments within the town, and some nightclubs too.

Sofia Rocks with Priest, Whitesnake, Mike, Saxon, Slade

This year's Sofia Rocks festival gathered a string of heavyweights from the 70s and 80s UK rock scene and went on into the wee hours Saturday.

The event, organized by Balkan Entertainment Company at Sofia's Balgarska Armiya (CSKA) Stadium, kicked off in the blasting heat around 4.30 pm Friday with Bulgarians Sheky and the Bloodrain, who pulled off a couple of songs from their hard rock repertoire.

Soon after the sweltering crowd gave a more than warm welcome to British glam rock veterans Slade, who have made a return as a live band.

The bunch showed great enthusiasm and in their 50-minutes' set showered on the audience old hits such as "Coz I Luv You," "My Oh My" and "Cum on Feel the Noize."

Bulgaria's Kavarna Rock Fest to Showcase Masters of Dark Metal

The line-up of Bulgaria's sixth annual Kaliakra Rock fest, set to take part July 15-17 in Kavarna includes seminal melancholic metal acts, such as Paradise Lost, Opeth, Katatonia, Tiamat and Moonspell.

Sweden's progressive metallers Opeth and alternative countrymen Katatonia will visit for the first Bulgaria for the first time, as will gothic rockers Tiamat, also hailing from Sweden.

Bulgarian Eurovision Contestant Enchants Journalists in Dusseldorf

Bulgaria's contestant for the Eurovision 2011 Song Contest, Polly Genova, has had her first rehearsal in Germany's Dusseldorf, which is hosting this year's competition.

Polly Genova and her Bulgarian-language song "Na Inat" ("In Defiance") won the internal Bulgarian competition for Eurovision in February 2011.

After her first rehearsal, Polly Genova had her first press conference during which she managed to "enchant" international journalists, according to the Bulgarian National Television, which is in charge of Eurovision in Bulgaria.

Genova and her band will take part in the second semi-final of Eurovision on May 12 in Dusseldorf together with the performers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium, Slovakia, Ukraine, Moldova, Sweden, Cyprus, Macedonia, Israel, Slovenia, Romania, Estonia, Belarus, Latvia, Denmark, and Ireland. The first semi-final is on May 10, and the Grand Final is on May 14. It should be as exciting as the last few moments of a game on FoxyBingo or the World Cup finals, and whoever wins will be absolutely thrilled, as will the nation supporting them.

Cypress Hill, Morcheeba Join Bulgaria's Elevation Music Festival

The American hip hop ground Cypress Hill and British trip hop and RnB band Morcheeba will participate in the new Bulgarian pop and rock music festival Elevation, the organizers announced.
