The 65th edition of the Cannes Film Festival started today with the first film in competition "Moonrise Kingdom" starring Bruce Willis.

The 65th Cannes Film Festival started today on the French Riviera. Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom, starring Bruce Willis, Bill Murray and Edward Norton is the first film to be shown competing for the festival's biggest prize, the Palme d'Or.

Bulgarian crime thriller "Operation: Shmenti Capelli" won the first prize for best film at the film festival DetectiveFEST, which is taking place in Moscow.

This is the debut of Vladislav Karamfilov, aka Vladi Vargala, as film director and tells the tale of a mystery string of crimes modelled after Bulgarian real lfie.

The Dallas International Film Festival presented by the Boardwalk Auto Group Volkswagen Dealers announced its 2012 award winners at its annual gala, The Dallas Film Society Honors presented by the Arthur E. Benjamin Foundation and supported by the Trinity Diversified Film Fund Advisors. In an evening where independent film and filmmakers were celebrated for their incredible work, award winners were presented with cash prizes and grants that totaled more than $70,000.

Popular and beloved Bulgarian actor, Velko Kanev, had passed away late Sunday night at the age of 63.

Kanev succumbed to vocal cords cancer, which he was battling since 2009. He underwent several treatments in a clinic in Germany after the Chair of the Union of Bulgarian Actors, Hristo Mutafchiev, issued an appeal for donations. The Mayor of Sofia, Yordanka Fandakova, further assisted for BGN 80 000 to be granted from the State Fund for the Treatment of Bulgarians Abroad.

The team from The Conspirator film of American actor, film director, and producer, Robert Redford, is in Bulgaria for the official opening ceremony of the second edition of the So Independent festival.

The festival is dedicated to the American independent cinema and will be held in the Bulgarian capital Sofia.

Arnold Schwarzenegger, who arrived in Bulgaria on Sunday for the shooting of the much anticipated sequel to "The Expendables", has posted a picture of himself with fellow tough guys Sylvester Stallone and Bruce Willis on the set.

"Back in action for The Expendables 2! I'm having a fantastic time on set with Bruce and Sly in Bulgaria," Schwarzenegger tweeted.

Bulgarian post-communist drama movie "Tilt" has received the "Best Debut Feature" Award at the prestigious London film festival "Raindance."

The award ceremony took place Tuesday at the Apollo movie theater in London where the competition has taken place since 1992.

More proof of recent resurgence of Bulgarian cinema and its standing with international film festival judges came from Sarajevo, where two Bulgarian films won awards at the 17th annual Sarajevo Film Festival, which focused this year on Balkan films and directors.

The Bulgarian movie (Ketsove") ("Sneakers") received the prestigious Moscow International Film Festival's Cinema clubs prize and diploma on Saturday.

"Sneakers", the debut feature of young directors Ivan Vladimirov and Valeri Yordanov, was also one of the 17 selected for competition for the festival's prestigious Saint George award.

This year’s Ambient festival III, the independent festival for experimental music and silent cinema will take  place on April 5 2011 at Dom na Kinoto, Sofia (37 Ekzarh Josiff Str.).

Two stages are prepared for the event. On the main stage the experimental bands Bluba Lu, Auditory, Ossicles, Popara, Ambient Anarchist, Fly Me To The Moon TrippleA, Yanus Quarter will perform specially created electro-acoustic music for the event.

The cinema`s foyer will be turned into a small lounge saloon where you can enjoy electronic sound by Elbi, Mytrip, Deflax, Flioffy, Alcek and Shrine.
